Program note
MERCURIAL is a free-form work for flute that was a challenge for me, a style of writing outside of my own predispositions for the instrument. I wanted something wild, something inconstant, something almost sassy and biting. I wanted the flute to soar in its upper registers and wallow in the lower. I feel that these differing textures, articulations, abrupt tempo changes, and interjectory percussive attacks embody that "mercurial" flow I first imagined.
This work is free for all who wish to perform it! I only ask you let me know that you plan to do so, I would love to hear your interpretation of the work. Let me know HERE if you are planning on performing the piece!
