Program Notes

TENSEGRITY is a design principle where a set of discontinuous elements create constant tensile force against one another to form a stable structure. I use the strings in this piece as a means to reflect the role of the strings or cables you would find in a tensegrity structure. They create vast amounts of tension and stress against one another at times, and the piano feeds into those tensions while constantly holding together these discontinuous elements.
