FOR GOOD MEASURE
for wind band
Kimberly Fleming and the University of Illinois Bands leads a consortium for a new 5-minute work for wind band by Ethan Jankowski, For Good Measure (2026). The work explores feelings many will understand about time and how we spend it. The late nights in the practice room, or the rehearsal with only a few minutes left to spare, and your brain or director respectively saying “let’s run this one more time…for good measure.” You may also think to a time when you were saying goodbye to someplace or someone, and spared just those extra few minutes to spend with them or at this place…for good measure of course. In our lives, I think it’s important to take that extra time, whatever it may be for, all in the interest of getting something more from whatever it is you’re engaging with. People, art, music, nature, anything. All in good time, and for good measure.
